GrabOn
June 2013 - August 2015, Co-Founder and Product Designer, India
About GrabOn
We all love discounts and offers; GrabOn is a one-stop destination where you can redeem a new offer. GrabOn was started in June 2013 by a group of five, and I was one of them as a product designer. Initially, when the founder discussed this idea, I loved it and did an in-depth research of coupon industry finding the real pain points and interviewed few shopaholics and coupon freaks to understand their experiences and expectations with coupons.
Role
Former Co-Founder and Product Designer
Research
Why do merchants offer coupons?
To promote new product
Encourage customers to return
Attract new customers
- No clear leader is trying to create brand for themselves
- Tap on building brand, thoroughness in content and building trust
Online shoppers who wanted to use coupons
92% of the online shoppers wanted to use coupons in 2013. We saw a big market opportunity whereas in 2009 its only 63%
Problems in coupon market in India
Users can’t find coupons for the products they want to buy
Coupons expire before they have chance to use
Users spend too much time to get a coupon
Design Goals
Thoroughness in content, Happy customers, Increased sales, and flexibility to find a coupon.
User Flow
After the initial time spent on the research, I learned that users are looking for a better experience to find what they were looking for. There are two types of user: Organic and Direct but for the initial version focused only on the organic visitor.
Organic Visitor
Direct Visitor
UX improvements
- After releasing the first version in September 2013, we learned a lot of insights through Heatmaps, A/B Testing and Google analytics.
- Usability testing of Version 1 and Version 2, helped to understand that the users were unable to figure out where to click and copy the coupon code.
- In version 3, call to action (Show Coupon Code) button is slightly peeled to make users curious to know a coupon code is beneath it.
- Naming convention as "Show coupon code" is made clear and it speaks the users' language compared to previous versions.
Growth Hacking ideas
Collaborated with Leadership, Marketing and Business team to come up with guerilla marketing ideas. All the campaigns resulted in a tremendous increase in unique visitors for the product.
